Vermont Quilt Festival
From: 2013.06.29 To: 2013.07.01
Did you know that quilting is one of the fastest growing hobbies in America? According to a 2010 survey, 14% of U.S. households are home to at least one hardcore quilting enthusiast, whose total number goes beyond 21 million, making the quilting industry a $3.58-million-dollar enterprise. OK, enough of numbers. To see what the craze is all about, the Vermont Quilt Festival is a good bet, being New England’s largest and oldest quilt event. Since its modest beginnings in 1977 as a one-day show, the festival has blossomed into a three-day extravaganza that regularly makes the “Top Ten Summer Events” list of the Vermont Chamber of Commerce. The festival kicks off with a Champagne and Chocolate Preview and features about 500 new and antique items on display, a contest with international entries and judges, workshops, lectures and hands-on demonstrations. Browse the stalls for quilting goodies and don’t forget to enter the raffle – you might take home an exquisite quilt or a Janome sewing machine!
