The Green Man Festival
From: 2013.08.17 To: 2013.08.19
This folk/experimental music festival is held in the glorious setting of Glanusk Park Estate. Framed by the River Usk and the Monmouthshire Canal, Glanusk Park is set in over 20,000 acres of rolling parkland in the heart of the Brecon Beacons. The Estate is filled with history. From Celtic standing stones to a family chapel, from the Tower Bridge to the Stable Courtyard, Glanusk is a world apart. The Festival is unique to the site and takes place against the majestic backdrop of the Sugar Loaf Mountain. At night, the arena is enhanced by the dramatic lighting of the vast array of trees. Anyone who saw Robert Plant performing 'Whole Lotta Love' will know how intoxicating the atmosphere becomes. The Children’s Area is set in a safe and welcoming environment, and sees activities ranging from music workshops to puppet shows, Science experiments to arts and crafts. The Holistic therapies and massages at the festival’s healing area provide a world within a world. The Festival has an incredible array of hand-picked food choices as well. The queues for the Pieminster testify to its popularity, but other favourites include the on-site Smokery and pizzas freshly baked in clay ovens. There are a variety of bars with their own atmosphere and generous licensing hours. The cloudy cider proved to be the staple drink in previous years and was probably responsible for an awful lot of dancing and all-round goodwill. At night, the communal bonfires are lit and encourage campfire songs and general bonhomie.
