This one is a biggie. A local addition to traditional Memorial Day celebrations, the Texas State Arts & Crafts Fair, staged at the leafy River Star Arts and Event Park, brings together over 200 carefully selected in-state artisans to strut their stuff, be it blacksmithing, candle-dipping, lye soap making, quilting or lace-making. The three-day festival, which remains unrivaled in scale and scope in Texas, is complete with music stages, talent shows and other live performances, crafts workshops, a competition for local student artists and a large kids’ area with cave painting, a rock-climbing wall and even a petting zoo. Accommodation fills up fast, so make a booking well in advance to avoid tears.
