San Isidro Fair
From: 2014.05.14 To: 2014.05.14
The San Isidro Fair represents the pinnacle of elite bullfighting. The fair is held every May 15 in honor of Madrid's patron saint San Isidro and includes weeks of fairs, performances, plays, and parades. But at the center of everything is the famous Las Ventas bullring where the most skilled matadors in the world gather to face their fate in front of 24,000 spectators. The event also attracts the who's who of Spanish celebrities, including the King of Spain. An afternoon of bullfighting usually consists of 6 bullfights and can last a couple of hours. Two of the days will be dedicated to "corridas de rejoneo" - an amazing spectacle with bullfighters on horses. After a long day in the sun you will be ready to move to the tapas bars and cocktails served up throughout the city center of Madrid. On your way out of the bullring look for the statue erected in memory of Alexander Fleming whose discovery of penicillin has saved many a bullfighter over the years.
