Description

Ruhrtrienalle is a truly fascinating festival project. Located mainly in Bochum (but also in other nearby cities) the festival aims to utilize the vestiges of Ruhr’s coal industrial period by putting them into the service of conscientious, high-style cultural performances. Former power stations and factories play host to the best in contemporary jazz and pop music, experimental theatre, literature and dance, organised along three year long thematic cycles. Previous artists include Cecilia Bartoli, Jan Bosse, Akram Khan, Ariane Mnouchkine, Verrücktes Blut, Peter Brook, Nurkan Erpulat, Jens Hillje Bill Viola, Patrice Chéreau, Ilya Kabakov, Peter Sellars, Christian Boltanski, Bill Frisell, Patti Smith and Elvis Costello.
