Rose of Tralee International Festival

Every year more than thirty young women of Irish heritage journey to Tralee as "International Roses" to compete for the coveted Rose of Tralee award. The pagent and festival is named after a popular Irish song about unrequited love for a beautiful woman named Mary who was known as the "Rose" of Tralee. The five-day festival, which as been running since 1959, now centers on the "Roses" who journey from around the world celebrates youthful beauty and unrequited love with a series of events. Highlights include the International Gala Rose Ball, fashion show, Rose Parade and the Rose Selection event. There are also live concerts, a family carnival, and Rose parade, and Rose dance. The "Roses" come from the UK, the United States, Australia, Canada, Luxembourg, Dubai, France and Ireland, all places which host their own "Rose of Tralee" beauty pageant to select the contestants that will head to Ireland. When the queen rose is crowned, tens of thousands attend the coronation.
