The Rallye International du Valais traditionally takes place the last week of October from Thursday to Saturday. The administrative and technical checks take place on Thursday morning and are followed by the shake-down while the prize-giving and the traditional "Big Night" go on Saturday night. The route totals 830 kilometres that include around 290 kilometres of special stages representing 35%. The Rallye International du Valais is divided in three legs with some 20 special stages. It actually consists of eight to 10 different stages which are tackled once or twice. Their length varies from 7.70 to 37 kilometres. The rally has the reputation to be tough for the men and machines, the stages unrolling between 400 and 1800 metres above see level.
