Description
Tarabuco is a sleepy little village up in the Andean mountains, with a population of less than 3,000, but once a year in March the place is transformed into a vibrant sea of colour and life, as people flock from miles around to celebrate independence in the Pujllay festival. Pujllay means ‘play’ in the local language of Quechua, and the locals take this meaning seriously as they celebrate their identity in raucous style – clad in traditional Yamparaez garments and performing the music and dances their people have performed for generations!
