New Year's Eve, or Oudejaarsavond as it's referred to in Dutch, goes off in the world famous city of Amsterdam! With fireworks for sale just one night of the year - the night before New Year's Eve - the Dutch public go wild and the city becomes a battle ground as young, drunk folks set off dangerous, pretty, fire-ball-like things, drink lots of champagne, eat oliebollen (greasy deep-fried blobs of dough, apple and raisins) and generally have an excellent time! The best places to party in the city are Nieuwmarkt and Dam Square, with a free public concert generally held in the latter. So get yourself along to the Dutch capital on New Year's Eve this year and celebrate the Dutch way! Just watch out for those DIY fireworks, now....
