Ireland's largest outdoor event the Ploughing attracts upwards of 150,000 people over 3 days for this Rural Festival which takes place on a green field site on a private farm. A tented village is purpose built and the overall event is spread over 600 acres, encompassing every sector of agricultural and rural living in Ireland. Thousands of visitors descend on local towns, villages to spend the week working, socialising, competing at this unique event. Central to the programme are the National Ploughing Finals where up to 300 competitors compete for 17 National Finals - the winners qualifying for European and World Competitions. The Trade Exhibition is spread across 80 acres with every type of agricultural and plant machine on display, all the agri-services, financial institutions, Forestry Village, Auto Arena, Bio Energy Village, Alternative Enterprise, Home & Garden. A massive Indoor Trade Arena is created to facilitate hundreds of indoor exhibits including shopping arcades, health & beauty products, leisure & lifestyle, craft village, food fair, hotels and tourism, education, business and great retail opportunities. Special events at the Ploughing include Hunt Chase, Sheep Dog Trials, Fashion Shows, ICA Craft Demonstrations, Information Forums, Debates, Product Launches, Vintage Exhibition, Threshing Demonstration. Working Machinery Demonstrations are also a key attraction with many companies bringing expert machinery operators to demonstrate each day. Radio, Television and Sporting Celebrities are regular visitors to the Championships aswell as government and state leaders. Many national agencies, organisation and all the rural association are present. Ploughing Week celebrates the best of Rural Ireland and puts the spotlight on the Farming Community for 3 days in Septembe each year. This event is one not to be missed and an experience never forgotten.
