Milford Memories Summer Festival
From: 2014.08.10 To: 2014.08.12
Every August, Milford, Michigan, swells as about 200,000 visitors come from near and far for the Milford Memories Summer Festival, a delightful blend of history, sports, music and quirk. The festival’s biggest draw is probably the Civil War Encampment that recreates 19th-century camp life in Milford’s Central Park and features cannon and gun firings, drills, skirmishes and Civil War fashion shows. Active types can choose from one-mile, 5K and 10K runs, while music lovers are generously catered for with free gigs on three stages (beer tents stay open until 2 am to keep you in the mood for dancing). As for quirk, chill at the Cold Butt Euchre tournament, where you’re expected to play cards whilst sitting on large blocks of ice, or enjoy the heat at the Hot Pepper Eating Contest. Oh, and you can also enter the Blind Canoe Race, where blindfolded contestants try to paddle around obstacles on the Huron River without capsizing.
