Description

Along the shores of Lake Titicaca, the city of Puca celebrates La Diablada - roughly translated as a evil female spirit. This spirit is dressed for the occasion in a colourful costume and the locals surround the spirit with red crucifixes. No one is quite sure what the festival originally celebrates - perhaps the ancient spirits of the lake or Puno's liberation from the Spanish. Either way it seems worth the party! The first week of November is dedicated to celebrating this evil spirit and locals dress in demonic costumes and dance in the streets. Eating and drinking is also part of the occasion and if you attend this event you're sure to have a devilishly good time.
