International Music Festival Besancon
From: 2013.09.14 To: 2013.09.23
Welcome to one of the oldest festivals of classical music, which takes place in the beautiful north-eastern French city of Besancon. Created in 1948, the Besancon International Music Festival is renowned worldwide and has been the scene of many famous orchestras in its history. The programme tends to be very open to music from all the four hemispheres and should delight you with various classical pieces played by some of the best orchestras around. On every odd year, there is an international young conductor competition, which has honoured famous conductors in the past such as Seji Ozawa, Michel Plasso and Zdenek Macal. Prices are reasonable but watch out for the free concerts too. When you need a break, you can admire the beautiful architecture of the city or simply enjoy a lovely Alsacian meal in the company of the local white wine.
