Founded at the 150th anniversary of the birth of Oscar Wilde, son of the city, the festival is now one of the biggest annual theater showcases in Ireland's capital. The exciting program features twenty-seven plays, comedy, drama and musical alike, including eight World Premiers, eight European Premiers and four Irish Premiers. Irish, British, American, Spanish, South African and Australian productions will be presented during the two week-long entertainment, with a special emphasis on emerging playwrights. The high quality program celebrates the contribution of gay people to theater and arts. Works by gay writers, works with a gay theme or relevance and works including any artistic contribution by gay people will be on stage at seven different venues.
