Industrial Heritage Night
From: 2016.06.30 To: 2016.06.30
A hundred years ago or so, in spite of its magnificent medieval outline, Dortmund was one of the tarnished, polluted industrial cities of the Ruhr industrial region. Now that the coal mining past has been left behind, Dortmund is Germany’s “green metropolis” and its former industrial plants, production facilities, mines and slagheaps are part and parcel of sophisticated modern venues for art, culture and nature. The Industrial Heritage Night is an annual event that rekindles the past of Dortmund (and of other nearby cities) under the flag of music, dance and theatre. Over 50 events take place in various different locations in the Ruhr region; the means of transportation are excellent, and varied! In addition to buses, trams and trains, visitors can opt for museum-piece railway trains, age-old trams or the ship shuttle on the Rhine-Herne canal. A bicycle shuttle is available as well.
