Hop Tu Naa
From: 2014.10.31 To: 2014.10.31
Halloween is upon us, and the good Manx folk at the National Folk Museum at Cregneash will stage a traditional Manx Hop tu naa celebration. From a few days before the 31st, every visitor will get a free turnip candle and on the big day itself, kids can decorate their own turnip lanterns. At this point you might be asking yourself, what's Hop tu naa? Well it's the end of summer and the start of winter and, more importantly, Celtic New Year. In the past boys would run around asking for free food and girls would sit at home trying to work out who they were going to marry. The celebrations at the National Folk Museum attempts to keep the spirit of Hop tu naa alive.
