Fête des Rois
From: 2014.01.08 To: 2014.01.08
Given the revolutionary nature of the French, you shouldn’t be fooled into thinking this is a celebration of monarchies and absolute rule. Rather, Kings Festival celebrates something much closer to the hearts of the French, pastries. It is celebrated in France on the first Sunday after Epiphany. Throughout Paris, and greater France, bakeries offer a very special pastry known as the Kings’ Cake. These traditional desserts encases a sweet marzipan filling and, hidden somewhere within, a china figurine. The person who chooses the piece containing the little figurine is king or queen for the day and entitled to wear the paper crown that comes with the cake.
