Festival of Lights
From: 2013.12.01 To: 2013.12.25
Have yourself a merry little Christmas, island-style. Right after Thanksgiving, the entire state starts gearing up for the winter holiday season. Wherever you go, expect dazzling lighting ceremonies, Christmas concerts, live performances and parades. The Honolulu City Lights Festival leads the state’s festive light displays: after the mayor throws the switch on the capital’s enormous (50-plus-foot-tall) official Christmas tree, an electric light parade winds its way through the city center. There are also spectacular boat parades of lights across the state (in Hawaii Kai, for example). On Maui, even the giant banyan tree, standing in the heart of Lahaina, gets into the act and gets all lit up. Mele kalikimaka!
