Festa Nazionale Della Befana
From: 2014.01.02 To: 2014.01.06
Who needs Santa Claus, reindeer and a sleigh when you can have a witch riding a broomstick? La Befana is the mythological character who appears on the eve of Epiphany to fill the stockings with toys and sweets for the good children and lumps of coal for the bad ones. Urbania is a lovely medieval town in central Italy’s Le Marche region that holds one of the biggest welcome parties for La Befana. It is a tradition that has lasted more than 30 years in Urbania, which holds a five days festival with music including, the Bingo Befana and other classical music concerts for the grown-ups, markets with the fearless wanna-be Befanas racing on wooden go-karts and street celebrations. The highlight of the festival is the Acrobatic Befana jumping from a 30-metre tower to open the door of her house to the children. Finish the celebration with the Feast of the Epiphany held on January 6th which is a national holiday in Italy
