Feria de Murcia
From: 2013.09.02 To: 2013.09.30
Concerts, dancing, exhibitions, parades and games make up this festival dedicated to La Virgen de la Fuensanta, and will likely have people talking about it for years after. It's actually a number of smaller festivals with their own traditions incorporated together. Murcia was once a Moorish kingdom, so it offers both Moorish and Christian tradition, meanwhile the city decided to put on the Pop Festival, the Feria Taurina (bullfighting festival) the International Mediterranean Folklore Festival, and Mercia's sister city Lodz in Poland brings festivities from central Europe as well, not so coincidently, since both are staunchly Catholic. Nevertheless, don't miss the chance to see the various fiestas going on at once, and see if you can decide what the origin of the activity is. Moorish, Catholic, Polish? Polish, Catholic, Moorish, Pop? See to find out, but the gore sensitive and vegetarians should be weary, bull fighting is a gruesome pastime.
