Edinburgh’s Hogmanay is hands down the world’s biggest and best New Year’s party. It's a freezing, drunken, fiery and beautiful collision of the old and the new. It's a party the whole city is proud of, with over 100,000 people taking to the streets to kiss strangers, dance and be amazed by a fireworks display so good it is emblazoned into the city's collective memory for the entirety of the following year. Moreover, as the spiritual home to Robert Burn’s song Auld Lang Syne, it's the best place to cross your arms and sing along with with your friends. The iconic torchlight procession opens the festival creating a dramatic ‘river of fire’ through the city, from the Royal Mile to Calton Hill. Music runs throughout the program from the music festival in Princes St. Gardens, to the traditional ceilidhs, music stages and DJ sets all contributing to the unrivalled party atmosphere. Seeing in the New Year with a bang, Edinburgh is illuminated by fireworks displays from the world famous Castle and from Carlton Hill.
