Ducasse in Ath
From: 2013.08.24 To: 2013.08.26
Ever wonder if the giant Goliath had a wife? The Ducasse festival in Ath, the city of giants, answers this and more during three days of folklore in August. Friday is the wedding night of Goliath and his equally giant bride. Festival-goers burn Goliath's trousers followed by husbands-to-be in the crowd tossing their trousers into the flames as a farewell ritual to single life. Goliath doesn't enjoy much of a honeymoon because on Saturday he faces the slightly less gigantic figure of the shepard David in front of the town hall. We won't ruin the fun by telling who wins. Sunday the festival concludes with a parade of giants through the streets of Ath.
