Christmas in Gubbio
From: 2013.12.06 To: 2013.12.30
Fancy seeing the largest Christmas "tree" in the world? Head to Gubbio, a town in the Umbria region of Italy, where an entirely electric tree glows so brightly you can see it from neighboring counties. Gubbio nearly blows every circuit in town to put up a huge tree-shaped light configuration that stretches 800 meters into the sky. Yes, that's nearly a kilometer of lights. It takes over 500 lamps connected with 12,000 meters of electrical cable and covers the mountainside of the nearby Monte Ingino to construct. Indeed Gubbio found it worth their while when their tree was listed in the 1991 Guinness Book of World Records for having the "tallest Christmas tree" in the world (though since it may have been surpassed by electric trees elsewhere). Nevertheless, it's for sure the tallest tree in Perugia and worth a drive by to witness the shear massiveness.
