Christ Church Bells
From: 2013.12.31 To: 2013.12.31
Since the 18th century the bells of Christ Church Cathedral in Dublin have welcomed in the New Year. The belfry has 19 bells, more than any church with this type of bell in the world and New Year's Day is the only time that they are all rung together. Locals hold this event dear in their hearts; it's much more of a locally important way to celebrate the ending of one year and the beginning of the next than with the standard fireworks. Without fail, rain or hail, the crowds are big and start to gather a good couple of hours before midnight, often with drinks with which to stave off the Irish winter.
