Burgundy Wine Press Festival
From: 2013.09.17 To: 2013.09.18
Head to Burgundy when it is green to see a rainbow of wines produced in this fertile French region - and they are not all deep reds. The annual Fête de la Pressée or Wine Press Festival, celebrates more than six centuries of wine making in the region, and that includes dark red, sweet red, rose, sparkling, and white wines. The festival also incorporates the local viticultural and folkloric traditions by giving visitors the chance to step into the history that has made the region what it is today. For instance, take a tour of Chenove, the home to the medieval presses of the Dukes of Burgundy. These were built in 1238 and were functioning until they were made into a national monument in 1926. There are also traditional arts and crafts, jazz, educational films and tours of wine presses. Local treats such as smoked sausage, grilled port and Burgundy snails fill your mouth between sips of wine.
