Burgas International Folk Festival

The Burgas Folk Festival was created in 1965. In 1978 when it was granted the membership of The International Council of the Organizers of Folklore Festivals and ever since then it has attained recognition all over the world. Held in the second half of August every year, the festival attracts folk artists from Bulgaria and all over the world. The highlights of the Burgas Internation Folk Festival include oper-air performances, festive and colorful parades, folk choirs and orchestras, traditional bazaars selling souvenirs, traditional foods, concerts at the stage of the Summer Theatre of Bourgas and folk crafts and folk tale recitals. You can simply visit Bulgaria to watch various folk artists perform or you can participate in the ongoing festivities. According to the guidelines provided by the festival organizers: Bulgarian and foreign folk songs and dances ensembles, folk choirs and orchestras are eligible to apply for participation in the Festival. The number of the ensemble members and the persons accompanying them must not exceed 40 persons altogether. The participants should be of an age over 15. Recitals and participation in mixed performances of 5, 20 and 45 minute duration should be included in each ensemble’s program.
