Bulgarian national day
From: 2014.03.02 To: 2014.03.02
The Bulgarian national day is also known as the Liberation day, as it was on this day, 3 March 1878, when Bulgaria got independence from the Ottoman Empire after a subjugation of almost 500 years. The president of the country begins the national day celebrations by saluting of all the units of the Bulgarian army in a grand military parade. The president and his wife also host a reception at the historical museum at the president’s resident “Boyana”. Subsequent ceremonies are held across the country, depicting victorious battles of Bulgarian and Russian soldiers in the 1877-1878 liberation war. In various Bulgarian towns and cities people come together to sing folk songs and tales in their traditional dresses.
