Description

Massachusetts may seem like an unusual place to look for celebrations of the the life of a Chinese poet from the first century BC, but Boston has been hosting an annual Dragonboat Festival every year since 1979 - making it the oldest in the United States. The main event of the day is the races of the brightly-decorated Dragonboats themselves, as teams from all over the country compete in various categories; but there's much more to the festival than this. Events including Chinese drumming, martial arts demonstrations and a traditional Chinese Lion Dance, make this one of the region's largest celebrations of Chinese cultures and traditions.
