Bird King Medieval Festival
From: 2013.09.12 To: 2013.09.16
It all started with a 16th century competition to discover the best archer in the region. Whoever was able to shoot down the most birds with a bow and arrow was crowned the Bird King. In modern times the city of Le Puy-en-Velay has expanded the event to include a full-blown reenactment of Renaissance times. Every 3rd weekend in September the streets are alive with street performers, troubadours, acrobats, jugglers, equestrian games and of course an archery tournament. You'll also enjoy thousands of historical actors and residents who spend the weekend in tented camps and reenact battles and the daily life and crafts of the time period. When the sun sets the nighttime parades and music concerts begin. In total there are over 6,000 costumed performers making you feel like you are truly living history.
