The Asalitas Fair could be called the the festival of small wishes as people across Bolivia buy miniature items of material things they aspire to have that year. They offer these to the God of Abundance, Ekeko, in the Andean Aymara and mestizo cultures. Originally held at harvest time in September the festival has changed dates several times during Spanish colonialism and has been officially celebrated in January since the late 18th century. The biggest of the Asalitas fairs is held in La Paz, starting on the 24th of January, where miniature items of all sorts can be bought at one of the many market stalls. This is a great opportunity to purchase some interesting presents to take home!
