Abergavenny Food Festival
From: 2013.09.15 To: 2013.09.16
The last days of fall sunshine in Wales means it's time for the Abergavenny Food Festival, the cream atop the Welsh culinary calendar cake. The festival encompasses all things food – including tasting opportunities, cooking demonstrations, and a chance to meet food writers, chefs and other people who take eating as seriously as you do. It's held in the Victorian Market Hall, where the high ceilings and intricate stalls from yesteryear take visitors back in time. Nostalgia aside, the Victorians probably wouldn't have offered the kind of international spread on dislay at Abergavenny, with hundreds of culinary specialties from gardens and kitchens across the globe. But don't wander so far from home that you miss out on the Welsh specialties like seaweed bread, known as laver bread, and salmon salad, otherwise known as eog conwy. And if you take one of the master classes held during the festival you can continue the fun in your own kitchen back home.
