Abbey Road on the River
From: 2013.05.23 To: 2013.05.27
‘Yesterday,’ ‘Let it be,’ ‘Yellow Submarine,’ ‘Imagine’ – every single one of us knows these songs by one of the most legendary bands of all times, The Beatles. Abbey Road on the River is an annual festival organized in tribute to this band and their music. According to the organizers, it's the world’s largest Beatles-inspired music festival. Over 60 bands perform over the course of 5 days. The festival is split into five categories: Re-Creators (those who look and sound like The Beatles), Sound-Alikes (those who focus on re-creating The Beatles’ music and not looks), Tributes to Lennon/McCartney and George Harrison (self-explanatory), and Summer of Love (tribute to other 1960s bands and solo-artists). Bands perform on multiple stages at the same time, meaning you will have a number of styles and content options to fit your preferences. Many of the performers come from countries outside of the United States, such as Russia, Germany, Sweden, Japan, Greece, Norway and, of course, The Beatles’ home country, Great Britain. There will be movies and The Beatles’ video screenings, costume contests, singing challenges and theatrical presentations. The event now also takes place in Washington, DC in fall. Make sure you attend the festival this year!
